The Honors College at Miami Dade College is a place where goal-oriented students explore new ideas and engage in inspired creativity and intellectual collaborations with experienced faculty. Along with a generous financial aid package, The Honors College offers a rigorous curriculum with a challenging array of courses, seminars and enrichment activities. Students interact with professionals, scholars and leaders from around the world who share their expertise and experience in business, science and the arts.
Students in The Honors College will gain a global perspective in all classes and have additional opportunities for international experiences like foreign exchanges, study travel excursions and internships. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to transfer to the world’s most prestigious colleges and universities.
In essence, The Honors College:
identifies, attracts and prepares high-achieving students with outstanding scholastic abilities to excel in rich and challenging academic programs
provides a rigorous academic environment in which students perform at the highest levels of excellence, while becoming independent learners and defining and developing their individual purpose and gift
develops exemplary and creative instructional models and enrichment activities to enhance learning
enriches the greater College community by bringing scholars, speakers, artists, and business and scientific professionals to share their expertise and discuss of global concerns
assists in attracting and retaining faculty members committed to quality education for exceptional students
assists students in the scholarship application process and transfer to universities to ensure maximum placement and financial assistance
enhances and markets the public image of the institution as a place where superior scholarship is recognized, honored and encouraged.
The Honors College experience also includes a series of special classes in leadership, as its students are expected to become leaders. Students in The Honors College are full members of the Miami Dade College community and enhance its vitality. High-achieving students outside of The Honors College benefit from interacting with them and may be eligible to take certain honors courses. Eligibility
First-time in college students must meet one of the following:
3.7 GPA, and college level placement on the CPT, SAT or ACT, or
Combined SAT score of 1200, or
Enhanced ACT score of 26
and
for the honors dual language program only
Spanish SATII score of 600, or
Advanced Placement score of 4 on the Spanish Language or Spanish Literature test

Scholarships and Financial Aid
The Honors College Fellows Award is available to students admitted to The Honors College. This award is one of the College’s most prestigious scholarships, covering the full cost of in-state tuition, fees and books. The Fellows Award is renewable for one additional year if The Honors College requirements are met.
Before you qualify for and receive any financial assistance, you should complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). We recommend that you complete this application online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You may also obtain an application from your high school or visit the New Student Center on the Miami Dade College campus near you.
Awards made to students receiving Federal or State of Florida financial aid may vary according to regulations. The Office of Financial Aid will gladly respond to any question you have and may be reached at 305-237-8888.

A combination of grades, test scores, recommendations, an essay on an assigned topic and personal interview will be used to determine students’ acceptance into The Honors College.
Academics
Degree Offerings and Courses
Students enrolled in The Honors College (THC) are Associate in Arts degree seeking students. Click here for a list of degrees offered at Miami Dade College. Students working towards earning the Associate in Arts degree must complete a minimum number of 60 credits. Of these 60 credits, students in THC are expected to successfully complete at least 36 credits in honors designated courses. Students take an average of seventeen (17) credits per term of which a recommended requirement of nine (9) honors designated credits are completed each term. Honors College courses are only scheduled during the fall and spring terms. An array of approximately 26 different honors courses are offered on InterAmerican, Kendall, North, and Wolfson campuses each term. Students are encouraged to take electives, participate in study-abroad or internships during the summer terms.
The curriculum in The Honors College is rigorous and challenging. Students are engaged routinely learning to investigate, analyze, summarize, persist, practice discipline techniques, prioritize their time and seek help when necessary. Students enrolled in The Honors College upon graduation will demonstrate a mastery of the coursework by having fully comprehended the subject as evidenced by earned grades and the minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5, as well as through the delivery of oral and/or written presentations.
The Honors College students with 36 honors credits and a 3.5 grade point average or higher are recognized as graduate of The Honors College with a special notation on the transcript and diploma.
Leadership Classes
Students graduating from The Honors College are expected to serve as leaders in their community. To enable them to attain the necessary skills, all students of THC are registered in an interdisciplinary Honors ‘Leadership’ course each semester. In these classes, IDH 1001, IDH 1002, IDH 2003 and IDH 2004, students learn various techniques to succeed in college and formulate a strategic plan for achieving their career goals.
